FAQ

RES and IRS

  1. Do I need to spend a minimum of 500.000 dollars to buy property in Mauritius?

No.  The minimum of 500.000 dollars is what gives you access to permanent residency in Mauritius.  If you buy and RES under that amount, you may use it for as long as you are allowed to stay on the island.  If you have a tourist visa it will normally be 6 months a year (depending on your country of origin), then you can also be on the island on a retirement permit, or a work permit or even an occupation permit.  Refer to our information pages to know more about these permits.

  2. Can I buy in the local market as a foreigner?

No.  As a foreigner, you may only purchase real estate in the 2 schemes that have been put into place by the government.  The RES (Real Estate Scheme) and IRS (Integrated Resort Scheme).
